Crowns: A crown is recommended when a tooth needs a full coverage. This could be due to a large cavity, a broken large filling or a cracked tooth that needs to be held together. Usually this is a two-step process. The tooth is prepared by removal of decay, or the large filling and an impression is made which will be sent to a dental lab. During the second appointment the fabricated crown is bonded to the tooth, restoring it to its original function, beauty, and stability.
Inlays and onlays: Inlays and onlays are used when the dental defect is bigger than regular filling but not big enough for a crown. The restorations are fabricated in a dental lab. After removal of defective dental structure an impression of the prepared tooth is used to fabricate a porcelain or gold restoration that is a perfect fit. This will be bonded to your tooth to restore it to the original shape, function, and beauty.
